About James Orr

James Orr was born in Middletown, New York in May of 1975. His mother worked as a nurse and professor of nursing and his father was part owner of a few small video rental and electronics shops. In addition, his parents also rented out a couple of properties.

He attended Mount Carmel Catholic elementary school then Minisink Valley Central School and graduated from Minisink Valley High School save a short time at Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida.

He began taking college math at Pine Forest High School and instead of his Junior year in high school opted to begin college courses at Orange County Community College.

James transferred to State University of New York at Stony Brook on Long Island, New York. He walked on and played Football at SUNY Stony Brook as a 17 year old sophomore.

James joined the United States Navy and completed training to become a Nuclear Reactor Operator holding several leadership positions during his training.

While stationed in Orlando, Florida in Nuclear Power Training School he met and later married Tammy.

James was selected for Officer Training and opted to attend Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana with Tammy and his newborn son JC. While at Tulane studying Computer Engineering, Tammy and James had their second son Timmy.

James worked as Assistant Manager of a historic movie theater located on Canal street in New Orleans and later at Kaplan Test Preparation company while attending school to support his family. Unable to support his wife and two sons and attend school full time, James opted to start a real estate related technology business.

The technology and marketing strategies he developed for this business were eventually deployed for an array of industries.

With the financial success of his business and the flexibility of having a 100% on-line business, James asked Tammy to decide where she wanted to live. In the summer of 2000, Tammy selected Fort Collins, Colorado as the place she wanted to live.

Later that summer, James traveled to Fort Collins, Colorado. During his first visit, he selected a home near Horsetooth Mountain Park and purchased it. The Orr family officially moved to Colorado in August of 2000. Since then, both Tammy’s brother and wife and James’ brother and wife have moved to Colorado.

As the technology business matured and changed, James began to purchase rental property.

As he began purchasing more rentals, he began to network with other local real estate investors and started the Northern Colorado Real Estate Investor Group with Paul Atkinson.

What started as a small group of friends getting together once a month turned into James teaching groups of local investors how he markets to find deals, how he finances and purchases property and how he sells, rents and manages the property.

He has also talked on marketing a business and specifically some strategies he used for marketing his technology company’s products and services.

After finding people requesting the information, James began recording these talks and making them available on audio CD.

He has been on Amazon.com’s Business Best Seller list for numerous titles. He currently has over 100 real estate courses of lengths varying from about an hour to a few full day seminars.

Over the past several years, he has slowly been shutting down parts of his technology company and focusing more on real estate investing, speaking on real estate investing, marketing and building businesses.

As early as 2005, he predicted, during his talks with the Northern Colorado Real Estate Investor Group, the current changes we are experiencing in the real estate market. He related the sub-prime fiasco, variable rate financing, over borrowing and lax lending policies to the movie, “The Perfect Storm” where several climatic conditions simultaneously collided causing a deadly storm.

In mid 2007, James started to see some excellent opportunities in the Fort Collins real estate market and decided to apply for his real estate license to be able to facilitate helping other investors and build a real estate business.

James currently lives in Huntington Hills in Fort Collins with his wife of 12 years and his sons JC and Timmy. He continues to buy and hold rental property in Northern Colorado as well as outside of Colorado.

His hobbies include spending time with his wife and sons, running, watching movies, working with real estate investors and reading.

His favorite foods include chicken fajitas burritos from Qdoba and New York style pizza.
